I’ve Moved!

Welcome to the Ever So Sweet Blog.  Sorry to catch you off guard with the new surroundings!  I thought about a preemptive post back at Bake Good but in the end it seemed most sensible to just go for it.  I do hope you like my new home here at Ever So Sweet.

You’re probably wondering why I decided to rename the blog.  Well, as you have heard I have recently opened my own home baking business here in Inverness.  As a result I have been spending a lot of time baking for orders rather than just for my blog.  Also, my new business requires all the usual promotional tools – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram – and trying to manage my blog and my bakery as separate entities was making my brain melt!  Saying this makes me cringe a little but Ever So Sweet is becoming my brand and it made sense to have all of my content in the same place.

Although I am busy baking for other people my blog will not be taking too much of a back seat.  I hope to continue to post new recipes, maybe just slightly fewer than usual, but this will now be complimented by my latest cake decorating designs, as well as my usual Currently Loving posts.  I also hope to write about new things too such as cookbook reviews, some more baking and decorating tutorials and posts about my local area.

So as you can see there is lots going on around here so bear with me until I get my blogging groove back.  I would love to hear your comments on the new look website too!

Movin’ On

With the boxes strewn around my bedroom and black bags of old clothes and books piling up it finally feels real enough to tell everyone that I’m moving!  After ten and a half years of living in Glasgow (that it’s been that long I simply cannot believe) it’s time to head back up north to my homeland of Inverness.

It’s exciting and scary but I think those are usually the best kind of decisions.  The move has meant one major change to my life, which was quitting my job.  After five torturous years at university and a further five, admittedly much less torturous, working as an architectural assistant, I’ve reached my limit.  I tried to make it work but the profession is not for me, something I have honestly known for about 9 years but either I don’t like to give in or I’m scared of change, even if it is for the better, I think it’s a bit of both.

Anyway, better times lie ahead, new adventures and challenges, a new career too but more on that soon.  It will definitely be a new experience living in my home town as an adult but there’s a lot to look forward to:

  • Being back in the same town as my best friend.  So excited for this, let the nonsense commence!
  • Living close to the rest of my family.  Now my brother is back in Inverness I do feel a little out of the loop at times so I’m looking forward to being nearby (initially very nearby, as in the same house!).
  • My parents kitten Alfie.
  • Getting fit.  With a best friend who now runs and a cousin who is a fitness instructor I feel like I will have no excuse not to jump on the health wagon.
  • Closer to the beach.  Nairn, Dornoch, Rosemarkie…you can’t beat a beach walk.
  • Joining some new clubs/classes.  In my Inverness research I’ve come across a few classes I’d like to attend – beginners adult ballet, pilates, cake decorating – and some clubs I’d like to join – tennis and maybe start the Inverness faction of the Baking Club.

Of course it’s mostly about a new life and career but those are the added extras to anticipate. (more…)

2013…The Best Of

I made it to the end of the year!  I must confess that I’m quite impressed with myself because I have a bad habit of starting things and never finishing them (I’m looking at you patchwork quilt) but the blog has stuck.  This is surely down to the fact that I really enjoy it, it’s challenging but still a lot of fun!

I’ve really enjoyed experimenting in the kitchen, trying out recipes that were new to me rather than going back to my old faithful cupcakes.  Finding the time, and the daylight in the depths of winter, has been the most testing part but I’ve made it through and the days are only getting longer, yay!

So, in celebration of my 9 months of blogging I’ve picked out some of my favourite posts of the year.  I can’t wait to get going on my 2014 posts and plan to give the blog a bit of a face-lift too, exciting times.

This shortbread is my favourite original recipe of the year.  It’s like super duper fancy millionaires shortbread! (more…)

A Festive Moment

midweek 9

1/ Dark Muscovado & Whiskey Marmalade // I think this would go down very well as one of the homemade gifts for my family!

2/ DIY Vanilla Extract // Another gift idea, I’m quite excited about making vanilla extract as it’s probably my favourite baking ingredient.

3/ Homemade Cards // Inspiration for my Christmas cards, although I will be using more festive quotes (even though there is always a place for Mean Girls references)

4/ Present Wrapping //  Wrapping presents is one of the most fun elements of gift giving, this year I’m going with a white and gold theme which is a change for me because I almost always end up going with a Nordic-y red and white look.

Mid-week Moment

week 8

1.  Loving my new necklace from Etsy shop Foamy Wader.  I know, I’m a total nerd but we already knew that!

2. So excited to watch Catching Fire this Saturday, I’ve heard it’s even better than the first film!

3. As much as I don’t like to admit to watching my mums very favourite channel, QVC, I did find the only place left where I (my mum) could buy the Nails Inc Snowflake nail polish.

4. Yeah, I’m still obsessed with my parents kitten Alfie!
