As you may have heard, I have recently started my own home baking business called Ever So Sweet. I’ve had a few orders but as expected the pace is a little slow to start with, which is totally fine, this way I can hopefully build up to multiple cakes in a week!
A week on Saturday I have a stand at a food fair in Inverness (Highland & Moray Food and Drink Fair) so hopefully that will help to get the word out. As with any new business I’m still finding my feet and figuring out exactly what my niche is going to be but it has been fun so far.
I’ve rounded up the cake orders I’ve had since officially opening as Ever So Sweet for your perusal. They are generally chocolate or vanilla sponge with vanilla buttercream icing. When I next have time to experiment I’m planning on trying out Swiss Meringue Buttercream again which I’ve made once before. I think for the fully iced buttercream cakes it will be much less overwhelmingly sweet and hopefully the customers will like it more.
As for my ‘niche’ I’m really bad for having loads of ideas but not really knowing how to see them through or commit. It doesn’t help that I’m indecisive but I also don’t want to limit myself. I’ve always preferred making cupcakes but it seems that I’m always making cakes. Selling cupcake toppers online is something I’d like to try. Also mail order cookies, biscuits and macarons. Afternoon tea service? Dessert tables? See! Too many ideas.
